Ice has come and stayed a day..... I'm so glad we ventured out into that Winter Wonderland... The roads were lovely and not slick at all but anything up off the ground was covered in ice and slowly melting...
As we were out an about a great chunk of ice hit the car next to me and we were like where did that come from? A quick look up and we saw that chunks of ice were melting and falling from the over head power lines... that we parked under!!!! I was lucky.. i think that would have hurt!!! 😲
My poor Viola or Johnny Jump Ups were literally coated in ice.. I thought they were goners.... but nope the ice melted and they looked fine... like Ice? what ice? ....
And lastly an update on Amaryllis..... Thats StarGazer in the front and finally Glee in the back...Glee is a little darker and the petals are more pointy... StarGazer's petals curl back but not Glee's... Short little Red Lion is just blooming like crazy... all gorgeous!
They were a big hit when we finally had our Christmas party on the 8th... You really don't appreciate how tall they are in these pictures... just amazing... now the trick is to see if i can get them to rebloom next year... :) I hope you've had a wonderful start to your 2025! Hugs! deb
Ice is beautiful here I am still dealing with several inches of thick on the steps up and on the hill up. I was able to clear just few of them today. saw 40's here tomorrow afternoon before we go back to the 20's that will be my window to get out of the house so I can get my car and check the mail box
ReplyDeleteMy amaryallis bloom for me early spring in the house-then when no frost I put them outdoors in their pots-bring them in before the fall frost-and the cycle begins again. I love these blooms too.
happy weekend
While it may look pretty, ice is nasty. Depending on the thickness it can be quite dangerous. Not only on roads but bringing tree limbs and power-lines down. Our basement flooded one year because we lost electricity for 2 days. No electricity. No sump pump. We've since put in a new sump pump with an emergency battery backup. I still don't like ice unless it's in a drink. I'm glad the Johnny-jump-ups survived. They are so cute and cheery. Your amaryllis are just gorgeous. Ma had quite a few but I don't know what she did to get them to bloom. She had such a green thumb which I did not inherit.
ReplyDeleteNot a fan of ice storms, even though they are quite beautiful. Too old to fall anymore--lol! And it is a real pain to get it off of sidewalks and cars, etc. I can remember not being able to get into my car after work because my locks were frozen. I had a can of this lock spray deicer--but it was in my trunk...which I couldn't unlock, either--ROFL!
ReplyDeleteYour little flowers survived! Amazing! And your Amarillas look magnificent.
We're getting a little bit of snow today. Much prefer it over ice--lol! Stay warm, my friend! :)
