T stands for FleaMarket........

I hope everyone is having a great start to their New Year!! I'm still burning a pine scented candle even though the tree is just a memory from last year , since we did not decorate this year.. I've been looking to see what i might enter in the stock show ,Creative Arts division this year.. They haven't posted their new catalog for this year but it pretty much stays the same..On another note : Here's a question for you... Do you like Flea Markets? Antique Markets? Estate Sales, Yard and Garage Sales?

I like all of the above to varying degrees... and my tastes have changed over the years.. These days i will rarely stop at a yard sale or garage sale . I have found they are usually mostly clothes which is least of what i'am looking for..  I will gladly pull over for an Estate Sale no matter how morbid that might be.. I enjoy walking through someone's home seeing how they lived and what they loved.. Usually its an elderly couple and you can see if they were into books , movies.. music.. art.. if they did any crafts.. Anyway.. I also like flea markets indoor or out door.. I seem to find indoor more and more..

Antique Markets i usually steer away from as they tend to be too expensive.. even Flea Markets can be expensive... But i LOVE to look... i almost always see something i have no idea what it is.. often hubby will know.. being older than me and all..ahem... lol Ofcourse the above photo is my ticket to the T party...

Or maybe you like this one for the Tparty?  The price tags look like tea bags don't they..lol

Loved this old typewriter... Not that i would want to use one.. but i remember someone who had one when i was a child.. I got to poke around on it.. Those buttons are not easy to push!

We have several Indoor Flea Markets in my little town.. You could easily loose and afternoon just browsing.. So much stuff its difficult to see everything.. probably why i can go back often and it nevers get old..

One thing i've noticed is that they do not have much turnover... the same items seem to sit there for months... perhaps years.. I have no idea how they make a profit as they must pay for their space.. Its almost like its a storage unit instead a place to sell.. To me if nothing is selling that tells me the price is too high.. or i need to pull some stuff that is not selling and put in new stuff.. or as a last resort take it home and enjoy it.. Why pay for the storage? Anyway.. just a thought..  Well thats about it from me this week ..I hope you enjoyed visiting the Flea Market! and  I hope you've all had a good week.. I'll be around to visit! Happy T day Hugs! deb

  1. I enjoy going through antique and flea markets. Rarely have I bought anything. Mostly because the stuff they have to sell is similar to the stuff sitting in my basement that belonged to my ma. And that's probably why their turnover is so slow. Everyone's grandma or ma has the stuff. 😺Happy T Day PS: You had to have strong hands to pound the keys on those old typewriters!

  2. I have an old Underwood typewriter like that. It's just like what I learned to type on--and why I have always had a heavy hand on keyboards--lol! Ian is fascinated by it, so I am not going to get rid of it. ;)

I love all of those, but agree with you that garage or yard sales usually have so many clothes. Back when I had a little growing boy I loved them...not so much now. The pictures---drew me right in!!! Love to snoop through those shops--yes! Been many years. But I still have a few items that I found and treasure from junk shops. ;)

  3. I enjoy wandering through the thrift stores. We don't have any flea markets here anymore but when we did, they were too expensive and not what I look for. Garage sales here are mostly clothes and kid's toys which I do not need so I seldom stop at them. Since Covid, I've only been in the thrift stores a handful of times. I'm also in a "time to get rid of stuff' mood so I'm not buying much of anything....unless I need it..... or really want it! LOL.

  4. I'm not a yard sale person, but I love second hand shops. Antique shops are fun, but like you said, too expensive. My mom had one of those typewriters, and I learned to type on it. But it was huge and heavy and certainly did give your fingers a work out. I love second hand book piles. I also love when there's a barrel of fabric or fabric scraps to dig through. This is a fun post Deb I could "browse" without even having a temptation to buy anything since these are just photos. Have a super T day Deb. hugs-Erika

  5. I do like flea markets and antique stores, but not if they are as overflowing as in your pictures. I also like garage or yard sales and found some good items there as well. Happy T day.

  6. Fun post Deb, most of our marriage we would go to estate sales or auctions, flea markets, garage sales-here in Missouri they have resale shops which I really like too-the older we get though (mid 70's now) we don't need anything so we rarely go anymore. although I do need blue jeans really bad so will stop at the animal shelter's resale shop soon and see if I can find a pair.
almost all of my kitchen collections-cast iron, vintage rolling pins, cookie cutters etc etc are all from resale shops or garage sales. I have found allot of craft items too-my husband bought me a spinning wheel they brought from England, he found a 45" rug weaving loom at a garage sale and on it goes..
with Larry's poor health we rarely do that anymore-and we don't need much anymore either--but it was so fun and always gives me good memories
    great post-Happy T

  7. The last time I was on a flea market I was aged 17 (I am 50now). Three years ago I wanted to go but they were closed.
    And then came COVID...
    Hehe, same with my Hubby...
Cute idea with the price tags.
Here you find much on the street for free.
No? Just yesterday we saw a docu on TV and they had such a typewriter. I said, must´ve been tough work but Ingo stated they were rather easy-going.
    Glad we have PCs :-)
Happy T-Day and thank you for the tour, hugs

  9. Nice photos of this and that!

I’ve read that collectibles like the flea-market-antique-fair kind of stuff are now much less popular, and people who collected them are disappointed because their collections did not turn out to be vastly valuable. The younger people now want less stuff or new stuff, not old silver and china and knickknacks, I guess.

  10. I started this last night and fell asleep in my chair. Woke much later as I was falling into my keyboard.

If I go to a garage sale, it's because I have a specific thing I'm looking for. I wanted some old silverware to make art, so I stopped at one garage sale that sold me about 20 pieces of silver for $0.50. I was thrilled.

Estate sales are very expensive where I live. There are only three estate agents here and they all charge 20% of the total sales. The family has no say as to how much to charge. The prices are set by the agents. A neighbor hired one and was furious when the agent wouldn't lower the prices on the final day of the sale. She told me the first day was filled with people who were dealers. By noon all the really important stuff was gone. I hope you have better luck where you live. I'll shop at thrift stores if I need something. For now, I can't think of anything I need.

Those teapots are adorable. I also like the Campbell's mugs, even though I would probably not be able to afford them. Thanks for taking us to some flea markets and sharing teapots and mugs with us for T this Tuesday, dear Deb.

  11. I used to like all those types of sales but now they don't interest me. Must be age and the face that I don't need one more thing in my house. LOL Have a lovely day today.

  12. Yes, I do like Antique Markets. I used to like the others, too, but as I'm paring down as I get older I've settled into antique malls as providing the best window-shopping opportunities. You've met my window shopping needs for today in your post :) Happy T Tuesday!

  13. Loving those two moose, how adorable are they! I have a thing for moose and have a few around the house too 😊. I so enjoyed looking around the flea market, such fun! Wishing you a very Happy T Day! Hugs Jo x

  14. I love walking around a flea market. Here we have what they call The English Market. It is really a car boot sale (which is unknown here in Spain). They sell all sorts. Also small pieces of furniture. It is held on a Sunday morning, when I really want to go to church. So if I want to go, I'll have to get up early and go before church.
I have never heard of an estate sale. But I think it's such a good idea. Rather than paying someone to take stuff away, you can sell it and perhaps earn some money. Garage sales don't exist here either. They don't have secondhand shops either. Only in the big cities. Every time I go to England I always go to the charity shops. In September I bought a set of very pretty liquor glasses and I managed to get them home in one piece.
    Happy T-Day,
    Hugs,
    Lisca

  15. Yes I like to look at all those things, but I can't trust myself or I would bring it all home and there is no room lol. Charity shops in the UK used to be quite good but mostly they are full of clothes now and less interesting things. We used to have one nearby that was all books !!! but it has gone now. Happy T Day! 16. I used to love to go to garage sales, thrift stores and antique stores, but I have enough stuff and need to be on the downsizing stage of my life at 77. LOL Happy T Day.

  17. I love visiting all these venues, but I agree, they can be expensive. And I have wondered the same...how can they make money. But sometimes you find that one item you want at a bargain, so it is worth it to check frequently. i wish I could go more often. Love seeing all these things.
I am a little late this week.
    Happy Belated Tea Day,
    Kate

  18. wow! I enjoyed going through this post by looking at the photos from the Fleamarket. Beautiful teapots and other antiques too. I always love to visit such places...
    Happy belated T-day!

  19. I love looking through bric-a-brac in charity shops. When we go to France my SIL and hubby take us to Vide Greniers or Brocantes and I have bought things occasionally. My son and DIL took us to some fascinating Fleamarket kind of places as they are looking for suitable items for their manoir. My hubby has no interest at all! The places you show here would lease me immensely. Belated Happy T Day, hugs, Chrisx

  20. Years ago I used to go to flea markets (and similar markets) more often because I was still looking for decorations for the house and garden. Today I would rather sell (almost) everything ;-DDD However, we don't have very many markets of this kind here.
My brother has such an old typewriter, I envied him for that for years. Today I'm glad that I have a little less standing around ;-)
    Happy (belated) T-Day :-)
    All the best from Austria

  21. What an interesting post! I am a seller at antique malls so you know I am an addict of flea markets, auctions and yard sales--although like you I find most yard sales are clothes and more clothes, or all Wal-Mart stuff.
