...............Or whatever time of day you happen to be visiting... I'm recycling my ticket to the T stands for Tuesday party! But its such a lovely mug i hope you won't mind..
A pretty uneventful week.......... So i thought this might be the perfect opportunity to introduce you to the town sheep! Anybody whose anybody in the business world or church or school has a sheep...
They came about in 2007 as a fundraiser to revitalize our down town... With a little research i found out that each sheep costs $1600 and an additional $100 for the clear coat... Then you have to negotiate with an artist from their list of artists anywhere from $500 - $1500.... These are just a few... they are EVERYWHERE!
San Angelo was a very important town to the sheep industry and its a very big part of our west Texas heritage.. Does your town or city do anything like this? Where i moved from in Arkansas it was all about the horses.. If you'd like to see more of our flock go HERE. I hope you've had a fabulous week! I'll be sure to come around and visit.. Happy happy T day! Hugs! deb
The sheep are so fun! We don't have anything like it in my rural town. A few towns north of the city of Worcester, Massachusetts is Clinton. In 2005, they had artists paint apples a nod to the many orchards and to promote tourism in Central MA. I think they did something like that in Boston, too, but I can't remember and can't find anything about it. Love your coffee mug. Happy T Day
ReplyDeleteLove that mug!! Back home Elkhart used to do this with Elk...however it didn't cost nearly that much. Each year there is a bid by businesses to have the privilege to have one in front of their business.
ReplyDeleteYour title caught my attention since we have more than 150 sheep on our mountain.
xx,. Carol
Love your mug Deb. Fun sheep art!! Our area has done similar with painted horse statues. Have a great week, and happy T day!
ReplyDeleteI STILL love that mug, Deb. I also like the trivet it's sitting on. Your sheep are very unique. I liked the first one you shared best, but they were all spectacular.
ReplyDeleteKansas City, MO has cows and we have our Keeper of the Plains. Each mold cost $1500.00 and each artist, chosen by a committee, received $1000.00 for their work. They had no say over where the statue went, but they (the artists) were told who had purchased each mold that would be turned into art.
Thanks for sharing these incredible sheep and your LOVE mug with us for T this Tuesday, dear Deb.
Good morning Deb, I love your mug and trivet too, and I really love the sheep, please share more of them. I haven't lived in a town that did anything special like this that I can remember. I have always loved sheep Happy T
ReplyDeleteChicago was the first city to have large animal figures painted by artists as a fundraiser -- the animals were cows, and the year was 1999. (I just looked it up to confirm my memory.) It spread fast to many other cities both in the US and internationally, with lots of different animals. What fun! Your sheep look very entertaining.

I would never get tired of that mug. So no complaints from me that you posted it again Deb. And I like when communities have those painted animals. They are fun to search for. And I have never seen sheep either. Does the sheep have anything to do with your town Have a great T day Deb. hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteI love those sheep! What a wonderful idea! And I imagine it benefits the local artists, too. We don't have anything similar here. Happy T Tuesday
ReplyDeleteOh, I loooove sheep (and that mug) - I think it was 2017 they had the same in Perth with cows, so nice to see!
ReplyDeleteHugs and a happy T-Day, thankfully the days are getting longer, so the moon will come later.
Hi! I do love your sheep ~ We have painted dolphins in Virginia beach. That would be a fun thing to post about some day :) I love your mug too!
ReplyDeleteLove the mug and the holder. My town did the same thing only with seals.
ReplyDeleteI loved seeing all the sheep sculptures in your town. Our town celebrates Goose Day so we have painted geese like this throughout our town.
ReplyDeleteYour mug is so colorful. Love it!
Happy Tea Day,
Kate
